Into The Trees - Meet The Artist - Charles Bailey AKA Bigfatbambini

The name Bigfatbambini actually came from my wife back when we were at uni. One night out, she started calling me that as a fun nickname. Later, when I was thinking of a username for my Instagram art account, I decided to use it. Now it’s grown into my brand name. It’s funny how things turn out.

What is your creative process? How did you create your piece for Into The Trees?
My creative process usually starts with something that catches my eye. For Into The Trees, I was really struck by evergreen trees. I hadn’t realised there were trees that stay green all year round. That inspired me to create the “tree couple,” a piece that has a gentle message about being evergreen within a relationship.
What or who is your biggest creative influence?
I’m really inspired by Quentin Blake and Spike Milligan. Their playful, expressive lines and sense of humor have had a big impact on my work, and I try to emulate that lightheartedness and energy in my own illustrations.
Do you have a favourite place to get Into The Trees?
Honestly, I feel so lucky to have so many beautiful walks around where I live. I love that I can just walk out my front door here in Somerset and be surrounded by the trees and greenery. It never gets old and always sparks new ideas.
What’s coming up next for Bigfatbambini?
I’m excited to be working on more greeting cards for the Bigfatbambini collection, and I’m planning to bring out some new products soon too. So definitely keep an eye out, there’s more nature inspired goodness on the way!
